Achieving Sustainable Procurement in Construction Projects: The Pivotal Role of a Project Management Office

Environmental and ecological impacts associated with construction activities have become an ever-increasing concern, especially the considerable amount of waste generated on sites. Regulations growing client pressure meeting environmental standards led contractors to adopt sustainable practices try embed this concept in their processes. Sustainable procurement management (SPM) as a potential solution takes consequences decisions into account integrates project bring positive outcomes. Previous research has mainly focused public sector achieving green procurement, yet study attempts highlight internal capacities that help private organisations manage requirements practicing sustainability. It is theorised robust structures, specifically offices (PMOs), would enhance oversight capabilities implementing SPM process. The objectives current are (1) identify process sites based literature review, (2) explore facilitative role PMO units these sector. A review was conducted followed by qualitative survey solicit viewpoints professionals principle contracting firms. As result study, we identified 17 sustainability found PMOs boost collaboration improve quality decision making towards procurement. findings explain how support sustainability, provide insights purchases, (3) theoretical understanding principles.
